is there a list of gathering locations?

help file on gathering says some items are location specific. does that mean i have to have a building at that location, leave my worker there to gather stuff?

and it would be nice if there was a list of gathering locations, so i know which workers i would hire based on the item locations.

If you click the information icon and then click Items and Spells, you can do a search of the items by worker. It will list what items that worker can gather or craft and what region that item is found in, if its region specific.
The workers that are listed as crafters, need to stay in a town in your buildings and they do their crafting in the town, either with items they themselves make (like the Farmers who craft Flax , Cotton and Silk) or with Items that your gatherers find while they are with you in your caravan. For instance, if you bring up Lumberjack, it will tell you what kinds of wood they can gather and what regions you will find it in, so if you need a specific kind for your Carpenter crafter, you would travel to the region its found in and as you travel through there, your Lumberjack would gather some for you.
